SEPTEMBER - SUMMIT - MT. ELBERT, CO

AT 14,438 FEET, MT. ELBERT IS COLORADO’S HIGHEST PEAK

mt. Elbert, colorado - 2ND HIGHEST PEAK IN LOWER 48 STATES

My first 14,000 ft. peak was a success and offered stunning views. The fall leaves were on full display and we battled cold north winds until the trail veered to the south face. From then on the air was calm for the remaining climb to the summit. We had stayed in Keystone Resort the night before, which helped us acclimate. Both my uncle and I felt great and were prepared for the colder temps. The Mt. Elbert trailhead is easily accessible on a dirt road and has a decent sized parking lot. The trail is popular and well maintained. A good choice for anyone looking to do their first 14’er.
